Sure, most people in the US nowadays can read, but so few really read. It is not enough to see the words and get their meaning; the ability to take those words and behold a full sensory experience. That is reading to me.
Anyway, like many literate people, I keep extensive lists of literature I want to read.
However, there never seems to exist the time...
Lucky me, as the stars aligned enough for me to hit one of my long awaited intentions yesterday.
I love, "The Stand", by Mr. King. One thing I knew for a fact was that the story was inspired by a book called, "Earth Abides".
Now for 15 years, I have not managed to read it, but, a few weeks back, I ordered a copy through my gay-lover, Amazon.com (I have no idea why I assume a company name Amazon is a He, but I choose to believe.)
Gray hairs have taken up residence in uncanny places since then, but, I eventually got to it!
(I think that is why I waited. I would hate to be old and have nothing fun to read).
It arrived! And, damn, did I read it. For four hours (small book), I was engrossed.
Engrossed.
It met and bitch-slapped my expectations. Certainly, I was not as affected as King, or others. Ironically, I am the third wave in reading it. Yet, still, it did hit me.

I will not bore as to why, I will say, though it is an old story, and moreover, an old story, it is worth the read.
So, "Earth Abides," is now on my list of must be read books. I have no idea whom I keep that list for, but, hell, who cares?
